PG Sportswriter Gene Collier Says It Is What It Is

Pittsburgh Sportswriter Gene Collier stopped by the show and treated us to an interview full of wit and laughter. Collier, a sports columnist for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, is the co-playwright of Pittsburgh Public Theater's, The Chief, a play about Steelers' owner Art Rooney, Sr.

See Playbill copy tribute here.

He also writes a yearly Trite Column that awards the year's most overused cliche in sports. Gene's winner this year is, "It Is What It Is" and told us that this is the second year that this particular cliche won. However, he also commented on other cliches such as "he coughed it up" and "he brought a lot to the table." What a great interview and talented man.

On a serious note, Gene also offered us his expertise as he gave us an inside look at what might be going on inside the Steelers' head coach interviews. And, he told us that he feels Russ Grimm is a front runner for the position, but that one can never know because the Rooneys would not be rushed to make a decision.

Looks like he was right since the Steelers chose Mike Tomlin as their new head coach!

The Great Wolfini Rides Again

A few weeks ago, the Great Wolfini visited our Show at the Petersen Events Center. I was amazed as the great one made predictions about recent events in the Pittsburgh sports scene. Wolfini pontificated about Ken Whisenhunt's future in the 'Burgh and although spring training seems far off, Wolfini also commented on Pirates Baseball.

Lastly, we got down to business and predicted the winners of the AFC and NFC championships. Although Wolfini is the so-called clairvoyant, I proved that I know a thing or two since I correctly predicted that the AFC Champion Indianapolis Colts would go all the way and win Super Bowl XLI.

Nostradamus can rest easy - come to think of it so can I!
